We went for a walk to the south of Plymouth one hot summer day. Dartmoor was hazy blue on the horizon, and the village of Staddiscombe nestled between the rolling hills of South Hams, but in the foreground a field of ripening corn was absolutely ablaze with poppies- an amazing contrast with the colours of the rest of the scene.
