On a trip
around the East Cape of New Zealand, we came across this very out-of-the-way cove. Captain
Cook’s ship “Endeavour” anchored in the shallow
waters for repairs in 1769.
There is a natural arch leading through to Tolaga Bay. This is the view from
the Tolaga Bay side of the arch into Cook’s Cove.
In the original painting a tiny figure can be seen descending the slope
towards the arch, emphasising the grand scale of the scenery. |
